The Yummy Yank Is Still Baking!!

I have been so busy with farmers markets recently that my blog has been completely ignored!  Not good, so I am making time in between baking to write a quick update with what is new in this Yummy Yank's life.

The markets have been so much fun and the Bramhope market which was at best dismal, is having a face lift and thus far is proving to be very successful!  We have more stallholders, we changed the time, starting at 10am instead of 9am, and it now seems to have a buzz about it again.  I am hopeful it may return to its glory days.  It's just a pleasant market, indoors in the Robert Craven village hall, great camaraderie and the people who are in charge of the village hall are a pleasure.  Our tables are set up, they provide tea or coffee and they all in all are a great help!  We now have an ostrich meat stall grilling ostrich burgers on site.  They are delicious-leaner and healthier than beef.  We also have the regular fruit and veg person, my American desserts, a butcher with the best pork pies in England, homemade sour dough breads of all varieties, olives, oils, Italian, pickles and chutneys, honey from Yorkshire, soups and sauces, plants, and a variety of crafts in the back room.  If anyone reading this is from West Yorkshire, please try and stop by.  It is the 2nd Saturday of the month, so this month is the 9th of April and it runs from 10am til 2pm (sometimes clean up is a bit earlier).  It's the smallest market I do, but it is such a pleasant one.

I'm still doing the market in Burley-in-Wharfedale and that market is this Sunday, the 2nd Sunday of the month, from 10am til 2pm.  It is behind the Red Lion Pub.  This is an outdoor market and over the last 3 months we have had rain!  Nonetheless, the stallholders show up, we set up our stalls provided by the farmer and are there with a smile.  I have to admit, the market hasn't been as great as it was in previous months, but rain does deter people going out somewhat.  But not completely!  It is still very much worth my while and I still do well.  Families still come with their baskets and kids on the bikes and scooters.  This is a much bigger market with about 30 stalls or so!  I do well even in the rain, but I know I do even better in sunshine, so let's hope for a sunny day this month!

Otley market which is held on the last Sunday of the month from 9am til 1pm was a record breaker for me this past month.  It was a slow start due to the clocks going back, but quickly made up for it from 10am onwards.  This is the biggest market I do, with about 40 stalls or more.  I love this market and my customers seem to love my product!

That's it for now, must get back to the ovens...carrot cake layers are ready to come out and my legendary chocolate cake layers are cooling!

My next blog will be more newsy, but just wanted to let everyone know my blog still exists.  So please be patient and keep reading!

As always, thanks for reading, supporting and enjoying my yummies!

Have a nice day Y'all!

Lisa
